A few days ago, Tag offered a new BETA version for download. SHOUTcast is not directly linking to it at present, but you are already able to test it!

It is all about the SHOUTcast Server Version 1.9.9beta, which includes only 2 small variances at the moment. In spite of that, it is useful!

If you want to listen to SHOUTcast Streams via iPhone or iPod touch in future, you will have to install at least the version SHOUTcast 1.9.9beta, in order to listen without any difficulty!

Of course there are some alternatives from other suppliers, but we are not responsive to that! These suppliers just look for few radios and the chosen ones can be listened to via iPhone but a reason is often the own enrichment. So why that, if you can get it for free with SHOUTcast?

If you want to test the current version, you can download it here.

Some of you were noticing it, but not everybody got the sense of it. The SHOUTcast TTSL Stats – without abbreviation, you call it “Total Time Spent Listening”.

But what is all that about?

On the TTSL page you see statistics of thousands of web radios. An example:

POS shows where to find the web radio worldwide. TTSL means “Total Time Spent Listening” and that shows, how many hours the web radio had been listened to for the last 30 days. .997 The Hitz Channel for instance, had been listened to for over 5 million hours, only last month. Altogether, people tuned in for over 7,5 million times this month. Of course, connects for only a few seconds count as well. Therefore there is the category “5 Min Tune-Ins”, to see, how many listeners were listening for more than 5 minutes. In this case, there were only 2 million listeners left.

Here you can always find the current TTSL status of SHOUTcast.com.

sc_serv – you read it many times, but do you gt it? Actually it’s very easy!

“sc” means SHOUTcast and “serv” is an abbreviation for server and if you combine them, you see, it’s all about the SHOUTcast Server versions. But why is it necessary to own a server?

With a SHOUTcast DSP Plugin, a radio host or Dj is able to be “onAir” with his ongoing music program. He or she has to choose an address of a server with a port, which has to be installed before.

Sc_serv represents the platform, a radio creator needs to be onAir. Depending on the size of the server it is possible to host just one or thousands of listeners. As a general rule you need to use a 100Mbit server to host your radio. With a bitrate of 128kbps you can only host about 700 listeners without having to load the stream again and again (you call it buffer). You can get more information concerning SHOUTcast Hosting within a short time.

Download the current version of the SHOUTcast Server now!

How to install a SHOUTcast Server, you can read here.

This blog is not only broaching the issue of SHOUTcast, therefore we would like to introduce another product out of the range of products from Nullsoft.

In our opinion, the best media player is called Winamp. In opposition to other media players like the Windows Media Player or the Real Player, Winamp is able to convince with its ease of use and the common features.

In addition to the conventional MP3s, CDs and videos, WinAmp also replays both SHOUTcast Audio Streams and TV Streams. read more »

Recently more and more people ask me, where they should host their SHOUTcast stream at best. With 5 years of experience of SHOUTcast Hosting, I do not recommend a SHOUTcast Hosting supplier, who is only specialising in hosting SHOUTcast Streams.

Why that? Well, I think, that it is too expensive and people who got some knowledge won’t need such a service. If you read the SHOUTcast Readme you will be able to install a Stream Server. And if you cannot cope with Linux, just use a Windows Server.

Alright, the only advantage, which I am knowing about is, if you only own a 5 slot radio. Therefore you do not need a Root Server and then, a SHOUTcast Hosting supplier might be an interesting option. But if there is a radio with hundreds or thousands of listeners you have to buy an own Root Server. There are enough suppliers but you have to choose the right one for your personal needs.

If you are searching for a suitable Stream Server Host, contact us – we will care about it!
